| How do I keep my carpet investment looking great for years to come? You have made a very large investment in installing carpet in your home. If you are like most homeowners you want to keep your carpet looking nice for years to come. Many customers will ask what they can do to accomplish this. There are several things that you can do. First, regular vacuuming to remove the dry soil on a regular basis is very important. This keeps the soil from grinding against the fibers of the carpet causing premature wear of the carpet, especially in the high traffic areas. Second, having your carpet professionally cleaned on a regular basis will go a long ways towards extending the life of your carpet. This will keep the deep down soils out of your carpet that regular vacuuming can't remove. The carpet mills recommend having your carpet professionally cleaned using the hot water extraction (steam cleaning) method every 12-18 months. Third, having protector reapplied after having your carpets professionally cleaned is very important to the life of your carpet. The carpet mills apply protector to the carpet during the manufacturing process, but this coating does wear off due to regular traffic. Carpet protector will help prevent abrasion against the carpet fibers caused by soils in the carpet as well as helping to protect the carpet from permanent staining caused by spills and pet accidents. As with all aspects of my business I choose to use only the best product for carpet protection. I prefer to use a protector formulated by DuPont called Bridgepoint Maxim. This protector protects the fibers of the carpet from the inside out which offers better protection against dye stains than other brands as well as protecting against abrasion from soils. Be sure and have protector applied to your carpet and upholstery following each cleaning. It is very cheap insurance at only $12 per room. These steps will greatly extend the life of your carpet and upholstery. |
